I did know that there were blasphemous claims by Caesar, and that some Roman coinage reflected this, but I didn't know about the specific coin in Matthew 22 until Sunday.

You're right that (1) was basic background. I wanted to make sure that anyone reading was familiar with what was going on, just in case. Otherwise, I figured that the rest of the post wouldn't make sense.

God bless,

JoeJoe Heschmeyerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06998682878420098470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4999044146888823867.post-1858573831804931432011-10-18T15:54:12.208-05:002011-10-18T15:54:12.208-05:00JESUS SAVES: There are some things that, although ...JESUS SAVES: There are some things that, although basic, bear repeating...Restless Pilgrimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16401126921440086739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4999044146888823867.post-64387478704532272222011-10-18T15:50:57.579-05:002011-10-18T15:50:57.579-05:00Thanks Joe - good to know that three horrible year...Thanks Joe - good to know that three horrible years of Latin in High School weren't wasted...Restless Pilgrimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16401126921440086739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4999044146888823867.post-9672037888252645152011-10-18T15:35:13.415-05:002011-10-18T15:35:13.415-05:00Your post is quite solid. I do not mean to sound snarky..... but this is rather basic information about this gospel story that is often used as the basis for the homily. Does this information never come across in sermons or Bible studies in your parish? I am just surprised that it was the basis of this blog post.Rev.
